The khurjins (woven saddlebags) have a unique place among carpet products. They are called also haybga or habiga. They come in different sizes, both small and large. The biggest khurjins are called ishakhurjins (donkey saddlebags), designed for mountain climbing. In one part of the saddlebags a churn was being placed; in the second part – items of copper or other stuff. The khurjins have been wrought in the form of a mat, sometimes they were made knotty (covered with a carpet), sometimes with a technique of teltogh (thread-left), more often – totally by technique of mat. Like carpets and mats, the khurjins are being woven on the loom. The khurjins of Shamshadin Zangezur, Artsakh and Vaspurakan are of particular beauty. Armenian-language writings on khurjins make them more interesting.
